When everything feels like too much effort
Depression can make even small things — replying to a message, getting out of bed — feel strangely heavy.
At IASH, our counsellors help you understand that heaviness and find your way back toward feeling like yourself.
(In person at our Bishan centre, or online)
It doesn't always look like sadness. Sometimes it's just a kind of flatness — a sense that the colour has drained out of things you used to enjoy. You go through the motions, you show up, you tick the boxes. But somewhere along the way, doing any of it started to take more out of you than it gives back.
Maybe you're tired in a way that sleep doesn't fix. Maybe you've been telling yourself you'll feel better next week, and next week keeps arriving without the lift you were hoping for. Maybe you're not even sure when it started — only that it's been a while since things felt light.
You may feel guilty for feeling this way. But depression is not a personal failure, and struggling does not make you weak.
Depression is one of the most common things people seek support for in Singapore — and it's also one of the most responsive to the right help.
Depression shows up differently for everyone
You may be experiencing some of these, if not all:
-
Feeling emotions intensely, unpredictably, or struggling to make sense of what you're feeling
-
Finding it difficult to start tasks, make decisions, or engage with things that once felt meaningful
-
Wanting connection while simultaneously finding it hard to trust, rely on, or feel safe with others
-
Feeling constantly drained, even after resting, as though your body is always working harder than it should
-
A harsh inner voice that criticises you far more than you'd ever judge anyone else
-
Struggling to focus, remember things, or stay present when your mind is busy scanning for what could go wrong
Sometimes depression is not simply “sadness.”
Sometimes it is exhaustion after carrying too much for too long.
