When the same patterns keep repeating in relationships

Different people, same painful pattern. Or a relationship you can't seem to talk about with anyone.

At IASH, individual relationship counselling is a space to understand how you connect — and to build something healthier, just for you.

(In person at our Bishan centre, or online)

You may notice similar patterns showing up in the way you relate to people — whether that’s in romantic relationships, friendships, family, or other close connections. It can feel like the same dynamics keep repeating, leaving you confused, drained, or unsure of your role in it.

Or there may be one relationship that feels difficult to talk about or make sense of on your own. It might be complicated, inconsistent, or simply something you’ve been holding in silence. You don’t need to have everything figured out, and you don’t need the other person present to start understanding your experience of it.

Relationship counselling is about looking at how you connect with others — what feels familiar, what feels painful, and what you may want to change. These patterns aren’t flaws. They’re often learned ways of coping in relationships, and they can change with time and support.

Relationship patterns are different for everyone

You may be experiencing some of these, if not all:

  • Ending up in dynamics that feel one-sided or unbalanced

  • Feeling drained, confused, or unsure of your role in relationships

  • Struggling to trust others, even when you want to

  • Difficulty setting boundaries, or feeling guilty when you do

  • Difficulty communicating needs clearly, or not feeling heard when you do

  • Not knowing what a “healthy” relationship feels like for you

Many relationship struggles are not simply about “poor communication skills.”

Sometimes they are nervous system responses shaped by past emotional experiences.
