When loneliness feels hard to explain

You can be surrounded by people and still feel completely alone. If that's been you lately, you're not the only one — and you don't have to sit with it by yourself.

IASH offers a warm, judgement-free space to talk.

(In person at our Bishan centre, or online)

You may scroll through everyone else's lives looking full, and wonder why yours feels so far from that. Maybe you have people around — classmates, family, group chats — but still feel like no one really sees you. You may put on a version of yourself that fits in, yet feel disconnected nevertheless.

Loneliness in young people is more common than it gets talked about, partly because it feels embarrassing to say out loud, like everyone except yourself has it figured out. But feeling lonely doesn't mean something's wrong with you.

It doesn’t have to stay this way. Sometimes it just helps to have a space where you don’t need to perform or explain yourself, and someone actually listens to what’s going on for you.

Loneliness shows up differently for everyone

You may be experiencing some of these, if not all:

  • Putting on a version of yourself to fit in, then feeling drained or disconnected

  • Not having anyone you feel you can really talk to

  • Feeling left out, different, or like you don't quite belong anywhere

  • Wanting connection but not knowing how to reach it

  • Feeling flat or low after social interactions instead of supported

  • Spending a lot of time online but still feeling isolated

Feeling unseen is one of the loneliest things to experience.

Talking to someone who truly listens can be where that starts to change.

Youth Loneliness Counselling at IASH

At IASH, we believe that young people deserve connection, emotional safety, and spaces where they do not need to constantly perform or hide their struggles.

Our approach may include:

  • Counselling and psychotherapy

  • Nervous-system-informed approaches

  • Emotional regulation support

  • Trauma-informed support

  • Emotional processing

  • Values-based approaches

  • Self-compassion work

  • Identity exploration

  • Peer support

to help youths feel less alone in what they are carrying.

We aim to create support that feels:

  • Warm

  • Emotionally safe

  • Human

  • Non-judgemental

Many people do not need “fixing.”

They need spaces where they can finally stop pretending.
